The growing range of M05 forestry equipment – and in some cases snow equipment – from Finnish manufacturer SAVOTTA currently includes backpacks and a range of bags for everyday tactical use, including magazine pouches, drop bags, tourniquet pouches, multi-purpose pouches, and backpack side pouches. The Medic Pack 18L and the Tourniquet Pouch from SAVOTTA have already been presented to you here. This week, we take a look at the various pouches from SAVOTTA.
The material used is 500D or 1000D Cordura (100% polyamide), which offers excellent resistance to fading, abrasion, rot, and mold. Even thorns and thorn bushes cannot penetrate it.
Most products have a standard PALS attachment system with straps on the back, which allows the equipment to be attached at various points. The fastening straps are made of 100% polyester and can also be incorporated into belt loops for 45–50 mm wide belts. Polyester is a versatile synthetic fiber with many positive properties, especially in terms of care, durability, and shape retention.
The materials used are excellently processed, which is reflected in the high quality and attractive design.
Most of the materials used by SAVOTTA are manufactured in the EU, with the majority of the webbing produced in Finland. All materials used are manufactured in the EU, with the exception of Multicam Cordura, which is produced in the USA. Some buckles and fabrics come from Asia. 97% of the materials are sourced in the EU, 2% in the USA and 1% in Asia. So you know what you're getting.
The small Zipped GP Pouch 3x3 is a real lightweight with dimensions of 140 x 160 x 80 mm (W x L x D) and a weight of only 155 g, yet it offers a capacity of 1.8 liters. The larger Zipped GP Pouch 3x4 weighs 190 g, measures 140 x 220 x 80 mm (W x L x D) and has a capacity of 2.45 liters. Both models have the same construction and main features. The designation GP stands for “General Purpose.” 1000D Cordura is used here.
On the back is a standard PALS attachment system with insert tabs and a strap-compatible attachment system, made of 100% polyester.
PALS straps are attached on both sides, which means that the bag can be expanded.
The interior of the bags can be accessed via a two-way zipper. This consists of two non-lockable sliders equipped with cord pulls and noise dampers.
Great attention to detail has been paid here. The zippers are brilliantly crafted and the material is used in such a way that as little dirt as possible gets inside the pockets.
The pockets open wide enough to allow easy access to the contents.
Both pockets have a large, flat compartment on the inside facing the body.
The inner compartment is equipped with elastic webbing loops that can be used to secure glow sticks, pens, and other items. A webbing strap in the upper part of the inner compartment is used to attach equipment such as a compass.
A water drainage eyelet fits into the bottom.
The Zipped GP Pouch 3x4 is suitable for larger items such as a water bottle, field rations, binoculars, water filter, multi-tool, notebook and pens, as well as three to four assault rifle magazines (depending on the type of weapon).
The Zipped GP Pouch 3x3 is a practical storage solution for medium-sized binoculars, water filters, writing utensils, camouflage makeup, and much more.
The Dump Pouch from SAVOTTA measures 130 x 300 x 130 mm (W x L x D), has a capacity of 5 liters, and weighs 150 grams.
It is made from 500D Cordura.
The Dump Pouch has space for 4-5 assault rifle magazines, which are designed for 30-round AK/RK magazines, so they are long enough. The Finnish VALMET RK m/62 assault rifle uses its own housing and is optimized for use in cold regions.
It attaches using just two PALS webbing loops, and when not in use, the bag can be folded into a very small bundle. The SR buckle secures it when folded.
The fabric tape along the top edge is strong enough to keep the pouch in shape, but also flexible and inconspicuous.
The inner collar has an elastic drawstring that can be used to make the opening larger or smaller.
On the back is a standard PALS attachment system with tabs.
The water drainage eyelet is again located on the underside.
SAVOTTA will offer two different adapters in different sizes and in horizontal and vertical versions in the future.
These are laser-cut pieces of LDPE (low-density polyethylene) with sewn-on Velcro fasteners for attachment to plate carriers, chest rigs, or other load-bearing systems with suitable Velcro fastening points. The adapters are quite stiff, so the attached equipment does not flap around.
The PALS attachment slots on the vertical model are cut in the “standard orientation” so that the pockets can be attached vertically, as with conventional PALS attachment surfaces. The PALS attachment slots on the horizontal model are cut at a 90-degree angle so that the pockets are aligned horizontally.
The development of SAVOTTA is progressing, and there are clear signs of successful implementation. What seems surprising at first glance makes sense upon closer inspection: the use of 500D and 1000D Cordura. For years, only lightweight items made from expensive materials were designed. The military equipment from SAVOTTA is designed for continuous and prolonged use in the field. In Finland, this also means harsh winters with deep snow and freezing cold. The development of the equipment was influenced not only by experience with the harsh nature of their own country, but also by the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Robust and weather-resistant material is essential for survival. This is reflected in the emphasis on simplicity, robustness, and reliability in the equipment designs. The tactical products presented here are impressive across the board and make sense because they are well thought out and useful. In plain language: bags for real users, tough and durable.
The products presented here are available in green, black, brown, M05 Woodland, Multicam, and Multicam Tropic. They can be purchased directly from SAVOTTA on their website or from retailers who carry the brand.
The prices for the various bags are as follows: The Zipped GP Pouch 3x4 costs 52 euros, the Zipped GP Pouch 3x3 45 euros and the Dump Pouch 34 euros.
The Dangler will be available shortly. We will inform you as soon as it is available.
