Now we continue with the second day of the SOF Workshop: Operation Nifty Package 2.0. If you haven't read the first part yet, you can find it HERE.
The night passes quickly and the second day begins. Perfect weather with sunshine greets you in the morning. Breakfast is served and then everyone heads straight back to the range.
This time there is some time left and we can take a look at the exhibits from DUSK TILL DAWN SYSTEMS.
There are various night vision devices with NNVT tubes, such as the InfiRay Jerry J31 or the PNVG-18.
However, there isn't much time left and we must get back to work. Loading magazines – before the big finale, there are still a few drills – so to speak, to warm up.
The things learned the day before are repeated and reinforced.
Additionally, there is a pistol drill, also because the pistol was somewhat less emphasized so far, as a lot was worked with the long gun.
After the drills, it was time for Jimmy again. During the previous time, the participants were closely observed, as mentioned before, the topics were only touched on and not extensively trained and discussed. For the grand finale, there is now a fictional scenario in which the individual components are to be brought together.
The participants are therefore divided into different groups – each with a specific topic, which will be handled one after the other. The division was based on how the participants performed during the training.
During the final drill, the other participants can watch and observe the teams.
First, a Slovak team is deployed. They exchange their real weapons for FX training weapons and must storm a house to rescue a hostage – in this case, a heavy dummy. So they approach the building and then break in.
The building is secured and the dummy is located, so another team arrives with the help of a pickup to recover the dummy and bring it to safety. A small but fine road trip for the participants, which is fun – except for the fact that the dummy weighs about 90 kilograms.
One participant has a drone with him. After a brief consultation, he is allowed to launch it and can observe the situation from the drone as well.
The drone's video is played on the television after the first operation so that all participants can see the action. Additionally, there is again a brief debriefing and tips.
But the scenario is not over yet. More participants are loaded into the vehicles and are ready for a quick intervention.
Off to the field, quickly get out and position yourselves. No sooner has the position been assumed than Gabo calls contact and the previously practiced drill must work. Not entirely easy, as some new team members are in the row who were not previously on the same team. Here, proper and effective coordination is required.
Smoke grenades and other irritants are flying. In between, you can always hear steel plates being hit. Action, as one is used to from TCA, is also delivered here again.
After all participants have had their turn, we gather again in the large tent for the final debriefing. Everyone is thanked again, including the instructors, who have safely guided us through the days with their knowledge. It is also mentioned again that this workshop has only scratched the surface of many topics, and if one is interested in specific areas, there are further courses available. And if one feels confident, there is also the Combat Challenge Jasna, where they can face various topics in a competition.
In conclusion, all participants also receive a patch. A successful design in the style of SOF!
What should not be missed are the certificates. We receive these outside after each respective name is called.
We thank TCA for the invitation and gained a lot from this experience! It was a special pleasure to see Brad again, as well as to experience Jimmy for the first time as an instructor. Jimmy is a great addition to the previous TCA instructors and we hope to have him back as a guest soon.
