The German Army receives ten new PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers

03/30/2023By Redaktion

The artillery corps of the German Armed Forces is getting new Panzerhaubitzen 2000 (PzH 2000). After yesterday's approval of the project by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag, the Vice President of the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the German Armed Forces (BAAINBw) signed a framework contract for the purchase of the artillery guns.

In a first step, on the instruction of the Federal Ministry of Defense, ten weapon systems from KMW will be procured to replace the PzH 2000s transferred to Ukraine. In addition, up to 18 more howitzers can be called off from the framework contract.

The procurement of the first ten guns includes a financial volume of approximately 184 million euros. Due to the transfer of howitzers from the stocks of the German Armed Forces to Ukraine, the re-procurement of these guns is part of a modernization initiative, which is financed from budget line 60.

The BAAINBw is procuring with the new Panzerhaubitzen 2000 a proven weapon system that ensures the fulfillment of the current mission profile. In the course of the re-procurement, various obsolescences will also be eliminated. The first four howitzers are scheduled to be delivered to the troops in 2025. The procurement of the guns is expected to be completed by 2026.

The PzH 2000 is one of the most modern artillery guns worldwide. It is a 155 mm gun system on an armored tracked vehicle for indirect fire support. The howitzer can engage targets up to 40 kilometers away. More information on the PzH 2000 directly from the manufacturer.
