"STOP THE BLEED" - Tactical Responder at 5.11 Hamburg

12/12/2018By Redaktion

Jerry Mayer from Tactical Responder saves lives and teaches you how it's done. He will be training on December 15th in Hamburg at the 5.11 Workshop for anyone who wants to save lives in emergencies. We asked him why TCCC is so important.

SPARTANAT: Jerry, you are a guest at 5.11 Tactical Hamburg. What can participants learn in the course?

Tactical Responder: In this 3-hour workshop, we will focus on the SAM XT, the Extremity Tourniquet from SAM Medical. We will learn about the XT and apply it to simulated life-threatening extremity bleeding scenarios. The concept of an IFAK (Individual First Aid Kits) will also be introduced. We will be using products from 5.11 Tactical and SAM Medical. The workshop consists of theoretical and practical components and aims to empower everyone to correctly use the SAM XT. Even laypeople!

SPARTANAT: Why is it important to attend a TCCC course and not just a regular First Aid course?

Tactical Responder: Traditional First Aid focuses less on dynamic accident scenes where the security situation can change. The accident scene is always quickly secured in First Aid. TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care), on the other hand, deals with an environment that is not always safe. The medical measures are also more advanced than in a traditional First Aid course. However, it is extremely important that the "Basics" are performed quickly and effectively. This includes controlling life-threatening extremity bleeding. Since anyone can be a victim or witness of an accident or terrorist attack nowadays, we want to teach these simple skills. This workshop is one in a series that we offer with SAM Medical and 5.11 Tactical.

SPARTANAT: How important is the tourniquet in everyday life?

Tactical Responder: Very important! I now carry SAM XT's in my car and on my person. When I am out in a big city, I have my EDC (Every Day Carry) IFAK with me. I can't know when there will be an incident. This way, I can provide quick and effective help before the emergency services/police arrive on the scene. Severe extremity bleeding can lead to death before the "professional" rescue team arrives. This is where the helper on the street can act - of course with good equipment and training!

SPARTANAT: What will happen with your course at 5.11 Tactical Hamburg?

Tactical Responder: As mentioned before, we will offer a series of topics. There will be short workshops throughout 2019 focusing on topics like IFAK, SAM XT, ChitoSAM, Chest Seals, and similar topics.

In these workshops, I will present the topics in a way that even laypeople can have great success in learning. The announcement/registration will always be done directly through the 5.11 Tactical Store in Hamburg. I am looking forward to having many participants!
