SHOT Show 2022: Springfield brings Hellion

Columbus came with three ships, the Croatians come to America with a Bullpup: Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of the Hellion™. They see it as the answer to the call for superior ballistic performance in a short, modular, and fully ambidextrous 5.56mm Bullpup platform. The weapon is the US adaptation of the Croatian VHS-2 assault rifle.

Unlike traditional long guns, the Bullpup system houses the bolt and magazine behind the trigger and in the area of the buttstock. This drastically reduces the overall length while still maintaining a long enough barrel to ensure effective shooting performance.

The Springfield Armory Hellion is based on the internationally proven VHS-2 Bullpup, used by the Croatian Armed Forces and also proven in Iraq and Africa. The Hellion offers American shooters a semi-automatic version of this high-performance weapon. In developing the Hellion™, Springfield Armory adapted the original VHS-2 design for the American market. This includes the ability to use AR magazines, mount interchangeable AR pistol grips, M-Lok® slots on the handguard, and six new QD mounts.

The Hellion™ features a reversible ejection system that does not require any additional parts or tools. This system is complemented by a range of fully ambidextrous controls, including safety, charging handle, magazine and bolt release. The result is an ultra-compact 5.56mm semi-automatic that can be fired easily from both shoulders.

The Hellion™ is highly adaptable to the needs of shooters by using a five-position folding stock and a two-position adjustable gas system. It is also ready to accept the optic of choice on the top rail of the Picatinny rail, which also integrates a set of flip-up Iron Sights.
