SHOT Show 2022: The MAGPUL Maztech fire control system

01/21/2022By Redaktion

The first commercial product expected from Magpul and Maztech is a shot counter, similar to what you would see in video games. A simple concept that is extremely difficult to execute, it allows one to accurately track the current capacity of a magazine under all conditions.

This robust system can then relay this information to a display attached to the weapon or other compatible visual support systems. The system is designed not only to display the current capacity of the weapon, but also to represent the user's ammunition status and supply across different operational levels.

However, the shot counter is just one component of the larger Maztech X4 Suite. The X4 Suite is a family of multiple independent systems that communicate with the shooter (and others if needed) to build situational awareness over the target area and weapon status. Ultimately, you get a fire control system, similar to what is currently being ordered by the US Army for their NGSW program, for private use.

The X4 Suite offers secure communication possibilities with Bluetooth, Near Field Communication, and ultra-wideband systems. Along with the Round Counter, the X4 Fire Control System (X4-FCS) is in the final stages of development. The X4-FCS enables sensor fusion in a LPVO, where multiple inputs from the weapon environment are combined in a visual representation in the optics. It will be adaptable to all calibers and weapons.

Other systems on the X4 roadmap that will be integrated into the FCS include the ability to actively select different inputs and displays, target acquisition and illumination, as well as improved visual perception for the shooter (and others synchronized with the secure system).

The X4-FCS is a display with a ballistic computer that can be mounted on various LPVO or previously called "Shortdots." In this combination, you get something that looks like it's from a video game- you get various data and aiming points displayed in your field of view, making hitting the target almost child's play.

Release schedules, full features, and pricing of the components that make up the X4 System will be announced gradually as product development progresses. Expect to hear more soon as Magpul and Maztech break boundaries in an area that previously only existed in large government programs and video games. Stay tuned.
