REVIEW: Olight Baton 3 Kit

03/22/2021By Redaktion

That we love the Olight S1R Baton we already announced some time ago. But now our affection is put to the test because a new love interest has arrived, the Baton 3. We immediately took a look at it.

So small and yet still a fully-fledged flashlight. The diameter is 21mm, and the length is only 63mm. The weight with a 3.7V 550mAh battery is only 53g, so almost nothing, making it perfect to carry the new one with you every day.

The back is equipped with the typical Olight magnet. Here you can dock your charging cable and the Baton 3 is fully charged in no more than an hour. In the complete kit that we are looking at here, there is no traditional charging cable included, more on that later. Thanks to the magnet, it also sticks to all metals, at least as long as they are magnetizable. Very practical to have your hands free.

The clip can be used from both sides. So, if you want, you can clip the Baton 3 to the brim of your cap and securely put it back in your pocket without modification. Very well thought out and a big improvement over the S1R Baton.

The operation is done via just one side button. You can also put the Baton 3 into a "Lock" mode, preventing unintentional activation.

The button is equipped with a status LED. Green means, as always, all good; orange means you still have between 60 and 20% battery left, red between 20 and 5%. If it blinks red, better charge it because then you are below 5% battery level.

Now onto the lighting modes; the Baton 3 has a total of six to offer. In the image, you can see the LOW mode with 12 lumens. Theoretically, you can shine for up to 33 hours in a row with that.

Here is MEDIUM with 60 lumens and a runtime of 7.5 hours.

To complete the range, we still have HIGH, and here it is. 300 lumens will illuminate your surroundings for 95 minutes. But we are not done yet.

Because there is also the Turbo mode, offering an impressive 1,200 lumens, but only for 90 seconds. After that, the brightness drops back to HIGH with 300 lumens for a solid 75 minutes. The small Baton 3 is very impressively bright. But those were just four out of the six lighting modes. Number 5 is a Strobe mode with 1,200 to 650 lumens and 13HZ.

The last lighting mode in the series is the Moonlight Mode, which we greatly appreciate. It delivers a modest 0.5 lumens, but with a runtime of 20 days. The perfect night light.

In the Baton 3 Kit or "Baton 3 Premium Edition," along with the lamp, you will also receive a USB-C charging cable and a mobile charging dock.

This charging dock is the "charging cable" for the Baton 3 and also serves as a stylish carrying case. With its built-in 3,500mAh battery, you can charge your Baton 3 approximately 3.7 times. All you have to do is insert the Baton 3 into the case, and the rest will be taken care of automatically. The LED indicators will show you the charging status of the lamp and wireless charger.

The case somewhat resembles a hip flask or an oversized Zippo. It adds an additional 114g and measures 62 x 30 x 54mm. It should also fit the S1RII Baton in the charger and charge it.

Here in the test, we have the red version, but there is also a Black Baton 3 and a limited edition Blue version, so no worries. We like the red color and it goes well with our favorite EDC multitool in the picture. HERE we have captured some moving images of the Baton 3.

CONCLUSION: We will probably become polygamists, at least in terms of our love for flashlights. The Baton 3 has definitely illuminated our hearts with its well-thought-out features, but the S1R will still have a place. The Baton 3 is a great flashlight for all your EDC needs.
