REVIEW: HEXAGON custom OWB Holster

03/23/2023By Redaktion

In 2014 - and thus already nine incredible years ago - the first part of "John Wick" was released. An exceptionally successful action film that stands out and whose fan base grew over time with the subsequent chapters. Our friends at MAJOR FINDING have attempted a fitting project for this.

The film series not only captivates and influences movie lovers, but also weapons enthusiasts - because there is something for every taste. From current standard pistols like Glock and Walther to tuned sport pistols and rifles from Taran Tactical.

But there is also something for the so-called "Boomer" generation - in the form of the classic and immortal 1911 pistols in God's caliber, .45 ACP. After their "successful" use in two world wars, no other pistol platform can match such a track record. We must admit that we are big fans of the 1911.

Unfortunately, we don't yet own a Kimber like in the movie, but we do have a very special Springfield Armory from 1987. This model once belonged to a sports shooter and 1911 enthusiast who regularly shot with it. To ensure that this continues, we went in search of a suitable holster.

For such an extraordinary piece, you certainly won't find a standard holster, and most likely, you won't want anything standard. Such a project can only be made by a true "custom" manufacturer who also has a pronounced artistic streak.

After seeing some custom holsters on Instagram, we already knew who we could turn to.

Marco from HEXAGON Holster handcrafts Kydex products for all kinds of weapons, magazines, or gear you can imagine. Each product is a unique piece and is customized to the corresponding customer's wishes.

You can choose from an immense variety of Kydex patterns, attachment options, and color accents. Marco personally discusses each project with the customers and helps with pattern selection.

We also told him roughly what we had in mind and left the artistic implementation to him.

Carbon-style Kydex with a Paisley pattern was used as the outer pattern. A very subtle pattern whose intensity changes with different lighting conditions.

As a small highlight, you can also choose the color of the washer located under the screw for adjusting the draw resistance. Of course, you can also choose from dozens of colors here - we opted for "gunmetal gray" to keep the contrast rather subtle.

The Kydex molds itself around the gun, and the shape of the pistol itself is hardly noticeable. In contrast to vacuum forming, here two layers of Kydex are pressed onto the pistol, making the shape rather flat. However, the pistol sits just as securely as in any other Kydex holster, and the draw resistance can be adjusted.

Single-action pistols like the 1911 are generally loaded and holstered with the safety engaged. Here we requested that the holster not only covers the safety but also pushes it into the safe position.

Regarding the attachment method, we opted for Speed Clips, as we believe they offer the most convenience, and you are not forced to pull the belt out of the loops every time you want to remove the holster.

With the eyelets on the holster, the wearer can also adjust the height and adapt it to their own carrying style.

Of course, you can also customize the magazine holsters according to your wishes. This applies to the pattern, the attachments, and of course the number of magazines.

Whether you opt for a single, double, or triple magazine holster is entirely up to the user.

In this case, a double magazine holster seemed to be the optimal addition to this project, as a bit of counterweight to the 1.3 kg of the pistol has a very positive effect on wearing comfort.

The magazine holster was also made in the same style, completing the project in a stylish manner.

CONCLUSION from MAJOR FINDING: If you are looking for a unique piece, you can have your very specific desired model put together by HEXAGON HOLSTER.

The only limit when it comes to design is your own imagination.

Unique weapons for which there are no "Blue Gun" versions must obviously remain with Hexagon for the duration of the holster production. However, this will not be necessary for many standard weapons (and lights).

For a combination of pistol and magazine holster like in this article, you should budget around €280 for the pistol holster and €120 for the magazine holster.

Specific requests were implemented in this case, such as: a holster shape that not only covers the safety mechanism, but also pushes it into the secured position when holstering, a design that fits as closely to the body as possible, and belt clip attachments at the level of the trigger guard - all to provide the highest possible comfort.
