FN Herstal delivers 4,000 FN Minimi Mk3 (3rd generation) light machine guns in caliber 7.62x51mm NATO to the Norwegians. The contract also includes the delivery of spare parts for seven years, as well as maintenance and support equipment for more than 20 years.
This decision concludes a program initiated by the Norwegian Ministry of Defense more than two years ago, which included a series of technical evaluations and commercial negotiations.
In 2010, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense commissioned FN Herstal to deliver first-generation FN Minimi light machine guns, then in caliber 5.56 x 45 mm NATO.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, the FN Minimi 7.62 Mk 3 Tactical – shown above in a general view, not exactly the Norwegian version – features an adjustable buttstock in length (five positions) and cheek rest height (four positions). It has a feed cover with integrated rail, lower and side rails, height-adjustable bipod, magazine and holder, quick-change barrel, and optional heat shield.
The weapon variants have a short or long barrel and a telescopic (Para model) or fixed buttstock (Standard model).
In operation, the FN Minimis can be partially or fully upgraded using conversion kits to meet the user's preferences. The FN Minimi 7.62 Mk 3 can also be converted to 5.56x45mm ammunition. HERE you can find all information about the FN Minimi MK3.
