The US Army program "PM Soldier Lethality" is moving forward with the three prototypes of the Next Generation Squad Weapon being further evaluated by the soldiers themselves. They now have the challenge of testing six rifles under operational conditions.
The three manufacturers are: SIG Sauer, General Dynamics, and Textron. One thing they all have in common is that they use the 6.8mm cartridge, which is intended to bridge the gap between 7.62×51 and 5.56x45mm and must be at least 20% lighter according to specifications. We are excited to see if this "jack of all trades" will be successful.
New weapons naturally require new optics. Only two contenders remain in this category. Firstly, Vortex Optics and secondly L3 Harris/Leupold with their Fire Control Unit (FCU). We are also very curious to see who will emerge as the winner here.
