ANDRES INDUSTRIES: Oxygen self-rescue devices for the Bundeswehr

05/08/2023By Redaktion

When it comes to equipping the military and authorities with high-quality night vision technology, Andres Industries AG is at the forefront. But the Berlin-based company can do more than just that. Now the German Armed Forces are benefiting from another treat:

Already last year, the company was awarded the contract for the procurement of oxygen self-rescuers. In the meantime, 110 devices of type K-SB60 have been delivered.

Unlike traditional gas masks, self-rescuers offer the advantage of supplying air independently of the ambient air. This means that it doesn't matter how little oxygen is left in the surrounding air. Even if there is no oxygen available at all, it is not a problem. The user breathes in the same air over and over again, which is automatically regenerated by the system. This also provides better protection against toxins than a gas mask, where the primary focus is on the filter used. It becomes particularly problematic with gas masks when the filter used does not match the toxic gases. In the worst case scenario, one receives no protection at all.

Thus, an O2 self-rescuer can become a life-saving ace for short-term use. For example in vehicle fires or chemical accidents. The small version K-SB30 is able to regenerate its own breathing air for at least 30 minutes, while the K-SB60 can provide up to 120 minutes, which can be extended to up to 360 minutes with calm breathing.

Unlike a compressed air breathing apparatus, a self-rescuer has the additional advantage of being significantly lighter and more compact, allowing it to be carried on the person at all times. The acquisition costs are also significantly lower, at under €500. The maximum durability is 10 years. Unlike a compressed air breathing apparatus, no TÜV inspection is required during this time.

The self-rescuer is also available for civilian users. You can find all functions of the device and its application HERE.
