If you like it cool, you will love CARINTHIA. They not only have jackets, but – often overlooked – also the matching, insulated pants. The G-LOFT® ISG 2.0 Trouser is the matching pant for the G-LOFT® ISG Jacket. We have taken these pants into their natural habitat to see how they perform there.
Outside it's cold, but we're warm. That naturally brings a smile to our faces. Winter is not coming, it's here with a good 1.5 meters of snow. That's the way it should be ...
Here you see the ISG 2.0 Trouser in its simple beauty. The outer material is made of water-repellent 3L Softshell GORE®.
Snow and some water don't bother the ISG 2.0 Trouser. The water just beads off, no matter what state it's in.
Even the side view is very black on black. And light: the entire pants weigh just 720 grams in size L.
Even the back can delight. The ISG 2.0 Trouser is slightly short in the leg area, at least with regular shoes. A few more centimeters wouldn't have hurt. With ski boots, the length fits perfectly though. Gaiters can conceal this perceived flaw when you're on your way through the snowy landscape.
To prevent the material from rubbing off during movement, the most vulnerable areas are reinforced with a slightly rough, durable fabric.
Thanks to the zippered width adjustment, the pants can be worn over many boots and have extra room for ski boots.
The same fabric that reinforced the cuffs is also used and attached in the knee area to withstand wear and tear in that area. However, there is no padding included and none can be inserted.
The ISG 2.0 Trouser is closed with a snap button. A zipper with a zipper pull keeps the fly closed, making it easier to open and close with gloves on.
The belt loops easily accommodate 50mm wide belts. The snap button at the top of the loop seems strange at first, but we will come back to this later.
On the back of the thighs, at approximately 5 and 7 o'clock, the ISG 2.0 is equipped with a zipper for ventilation. To prevent dirt or snow from entering, this opening is covered with a fine mesh.
The ISG 2.0 Trouser offers two simple zippered pockets. Thanks to the generous zipper pull, opening and closing with thick gloves is no problem here either.
The pockets themselves are quite spacious, which is not a disadvantage.
A special feature of the ISG 2.0 Trouser is that you actually get two pairs of pants. The zip-in shorts lined with G-LOFT® 80g/m² provide additional warmth from the knees upwards. So to speak, a "warm diaper".
The zip-in shorts can either be attached inside with a zipper to the ISG 2.0 Trouser, or worn on the outside when needed. Very practical after a sweaty climb, when you want to rest but not cool down.
Now the purpose of the snap buttons on the belt loops becomes clear. The zip-in shorts are attached to these to prevent them from slipping.
Form follows function, even if beauty has to suffer a bit. The zip-in shorts keep you warm, even if they look a bit unstylish. But better to be "ugly" and warm than beautiful and cold.
CONCLUSION: The G-LOFT® ISG 2.0 Trouser is a wonderful pair of pants for those who are out in the snow. A ski touring pant on steroids. Unfortunately, this makes it a bit short for everyday use, but currently shorter pant legs are back in vogue. CARINTHIA at its best.
You can get the CARINTHIA G-LOFT® ISG 2.0 Trousers directly from CARINTHIA or from all retailers that carry the Carinthian quality manufacturer, for 249.90 euros.
