The Marine Corps adopts the P320-M18 as its new service weapon

06/18/2019By Redaktion

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) follows the decision of the US Army from 2017 and adopts the modular service pistol P320 Modular Handgun System (MHS) as its new service pistol. In contrast to the Army, the USMC chooses the compact version of the modern striker-fired pistol, the P320-M18.

With the USMC's decision to use the P320-M18, it is also confirmed that from 2020 onwards, every unit in the US Army will be equipped with the P320 MHS as the new service pistol. The US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, and US Coast Guard have already adopted the P320 either as the Full-Size variant M17 or the compact M18.

The P320-M18 is known for its exceptional reliability. In February 2019, it passed the Lot Acceptance Test (LAT), which allows a service pistol to have a maximum of 12 malfunctions out of 5,000 shots. Three P320-M18 pistols, each fired 12,000 rounds, experienced no malfunctions.

The compact version of the P320 MHS is only available in black in Germany and other European countries, not in FDE. However, there are no differences in reliability, quality, and precision between the black and FDE versions.

And here is a nice video explaining why the Marines are excited about their SIG M18.
