The Nordic countries need a modern, functional, and flexible combat uniform system that can meet the military requirements under the challenging climatic conditions in Scandinavia. The system also includes modern combat gear for jungle and desert conditions, as required for international missions. This is the Nordic Combat Uniform (NCU) that we have already reported on HERE.
For the NCU system, Siamidis together with GORE-TEX has developed a clothing layering system based on the following GORE-TEX Professional Technologies:
To ensure that all NCU requirements are met, all Gore laboratory capacities were utilized during the tender process. This included, among other things, durability and wet labs, rain tower, and climate chamber. Not only the performance and usability of the entire outer uniform, but also the base layer system from Aclima AS and Woolpower AB were tested.
An important aspect of the NCU tender process was sustainability: Both Siamidis SA and GORE-TEX Professional have focused on long-term product performance while reducing environmental impact. The finished garments are certified according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. In addition, as a manufacturer, Siamidis has introduced a program to monitor electricity consumption, comparing the energy required to produce the NCU layers with the energy generated by the company's solar panels (over 3,000,000 kWh per year).
