Always focus on the essentials. That's the advice of every mental coach. This can also be applied to users of a night vision device. Here, the focus is usually in the distance and anything closer than 60 cm is somewhat blurry. To regain full sharpness here, the lens needs to be readjusted and then back into the distance, which takes time. Today we'll show you how you can easily make a so-called focus ring yourself.

You only need a suitable lens cover –Here with us in How To– and a small 2 mm drill bit. Anyone who wants extra protection can also use a sacrificial lens, because protection is always good.

Simply but carefully snap the plastic disc out of the holder included with the PVS14. If the diameter is slightly too large for the interior of the scopecover, gently file it down until it fits.

After two minutes of filing, the lens protector fits perfectly into the scopecover. In terms of protection, we are done.

Now it's time to make the focus ring, specifically a aperture. The advantage of this aperture is that you can quickly achieve a sharp image, even at very close distances.

You need to drill a small 2 mm hole in the center of the scopecover. If you want, you can enlarge this hole up to 5 mm, at least this value is quite common when researching online. But it's best to start small and work up through trial and error— the smaller the hole, the sharper but also darker the image.

Now simply slide the scopecover including the protective lens onto the night vision device, and you're done.

Two birds with one stone, protection and close focus in one, and all for a small price. What more could you ask for!
