Georg-Thomas Geismar visited WINKLER KNIVES in Foscoe, North Carolina, experiencing the warmth of Daniel and Keala's hospitality. He explored their specialized factory, observing the meticulous production of 25,000 knives and axes yearly, driven by craftsmanship and passion. The facility also features a factory sale and a museum showcasing custom pieces.
Our friend Georg-Thomas Geismar from G-GEAR was traveling in the USA and couldn't resist the opportunity to visit the legendary knife and tomahawk forge WINKLER KNIVES. Read about his impressions:

After just ten minutes of driving from Boone, North Carolina, I arrive at the family business of Winkler Knives in Foscoe. It's shortly after nine in the morning, and already the typical humid summer air of the American South hangs over the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A perfectly ordinary day in North Carolina – and yet this day would turn out to be anything but ordinary for me.

The often-quoted saying "Never meet your heroes" quickly proves to be completely wrong here. Daniel and Keala warmly welcome me with an openness that is unusual for Americans. After just a few minutes, I feel less like a visitor and more like a welcomed guest.

The subsequent tour through the "sacred halls" offers me exclusive insights into one of the most respected knife manufacturers in the USA. In this comparatively small yet highly specialized factory, 24 employees produce around 25,000 knives and axes each year. What’s remarkable is the consistent depth of production.

The production itself is divided into numerous, precisely coordinated work steps. After each individual station, a careful inspection is carried out to ensure the highest quality standards.

Not only is the craftsmanship impressive, but also the visible passion with which each employee contributes to the finished product. It quickly becomes clear here: A Winkler knife is not just a tool – it is the result of experience, dedication, and uncompromising quality awareness.
Here are more images and impressions from the production:

In the factory sale "Winkler Knives Actual," various knives can be viewed and purchased. There is a small museum about the history of Winkler Knives.

There, Daniel's breathtaking customs are displayed. But there will be an in-depth article about that.
