In action with the CG15 from CLAWGEAR

The CG15 AR-15 rifle from CLAWGEAR offers excellent performance and reliability. Tested in challenging competitions like Finnish Brutality and Touch Grass, it proved its worth with precision and durability. Look out for upcoming trade shows for exciting new developments.

At the end of last year it was released. The first AR-15 from CLAWGEAR, the CG15. Made in Austria with an excellent price-performance ratio, it is supposed to be a tempting offer. Since we accompanied Stefan from SAPIENS PARA BELLUM to the Finnish Brutality, we also had the opportunity to use the CG15 during the competition. We didn't want to miss the chance and agreed to participate in a Brutality Match with an unfamiliar rifle. What could go wrong, it's just an AR15, right?

Here's a photo from the last stage, with the fresh CG15. The red dot with magnifier came in handy, as we usually shoot with EOTECH and magnifier. The 45-degree safety selector from RADIAN WEAPONS was also ideal for us. Right from the first dry shots after receiving it, we asked in surprise: Is this the Mil-Spec stock trigger? Yes - we were assured. It feels qualitatively better than some of the others we have used. The trigger was crisp, breaking almost like glass and the resistance didn't feel like a three-kilogram Mil-Spec trigger.

The setup in all its glory. We used a Vortex Sparc AR optic, as well as a Vortex Micro with three times magnification.

The grip and front grip were from MAGPUL. As described, the safety selector was from RADIAN WEAPONS. Those who look closely will notice that we had replaced the charging handle with one from RADIAN WEAPONS during the competition to make it ambidextrous. Otherwise, the standard one is installed, which also does its job.

The handguard is also from CLAWGEAR. Sleek and solid. Additionally, a QD mount was installed. The ironsights are also naturally from CLAWGEAR and we love them because they sit flat.

On the other side, we had a STREAMLIGHT TLR RM2. As you can see from the light and the handguard, we used it without hesitation and even as a support.

The stock from CLAWGEAR sits perfectly on the buffer tube and doesn't wiggle. Adjustable in different positions, it leaves nothing to be desired.

Additionally, there are CLAWGEAR markings on the lower and the rail. Don't be surprised, it's all just dirt and not rust. But let's take a quick look inside.

Here's the lower. Since everything is Mil-Spec, you can install whatever you want. Whether it's a different trigger or bolt release. No problem.

Here's the upper from below. There are also some markings hidden there.

But let's get back to the Finish Brutality and how did we fare with the rifle. In short, there is nothing to complain about. We were a bit uncertain since it was still a prototype at the time, how the rifle would perform under stress and dirt. CLAWGEAR tries to find the perfect balance through narrow tolerances, so that nothing wobbles, but also so that not every grain of sand causes a malfunction. Therefore, we put the rifle through sand, water, and dirt. We fired quick salvos and were never disappointed.

Even with wet gear, no problem. The distances at Finish Brutality were not too far, the maximum was around 150 meters. The round count was about 200 shots spread over the 10 stages.

After Finish Brutality, we took the CG15 to another competition. We faced a completely new competition inspired by the Light Infantry, which took place for the first time by invitation. This was called TOUCH GRASS and was organized by TRAINING GROUP at the RDA Range in Slovakia. A continuous 36-hour competition with over 20 different shooting stations to conquer. In addition to shooting, participants had to solve tactical tasks and reach navigation points. All while carrying their entire equipment, which weighed around 30 kilograms. Unfortunately, this match was not widely covered in the media, so we have few photos, but we still want to mention it. Due to the expected distances, we switched the red dot with a magnifier for a 1-8 LPVO. This was a very good decision, as during the competition we had to shoot at distances between 200 to 350 meters very frequently. We could only shoot up to 300 meters at our home shooting range, so anything beyond 300 meters was an exciting challenge.

But the special thing about the CG15 is the Lothar Walter barrel with a 9" twist. This has a positive effect on lighter ammunition such as 55gr, which is what we shoot the most. The positive aspects of this impressed us a lot when shooting at 500 meters. The flatter ballistic curve was noticeable, and overall, the targets at distances of over 300 meters were hardly a problem. As a team, we were able to achieve 4th place out of 14, but on the shooting days alone, we were in 3rd place. Thanks again to CLAWGEAR for the reliable and precise rifle!
