... when plastic magazines are run over by a car? This was tested by our friends at Armamat with the original plastic magazines, the Steyr AUG magazine, a Hera Arms H3T, and a Magpul PMAG. The exciting but sobering answer: nothing at all. At most, there were small scratches, but the function was not impaired in any of the magazines.
This is probably due to the air tires. But that wasn't enough, and a heavier test machine was needed, a forklift. We admit, this is somewhat extreme, but why not. Here are the pictures of the destructive material test:
First, the AUG magazine. The body remained completely intact and looks like new, but the interior looks less good. The spring is completely crushed, and the magazine is therefore no longer functional.
On the Hera Arms magazine, you can clearly see the wear on the housing and a crack in the viewing window. The spring is also shot, so the same result as with the AUG magazine.
Externally, the PMAG looks a bit worse for wear, with a crack formed on each side. The spring also took a hit, but compared to the other two, it still looks good. It also still fits easily into the weapon. The only restriction after being run over by a forklift: two fewer rounds in the magazine, so 28 rounds. Not bad, we say. In conclusion, it is better not to run over plastic magazines with a forklift or similar heavy equipment.
