Good news for ground troops: the Air Force has decided that the A-10 Thunderbolt II (alias Warthog) should continue flying until 2040 and is now trying to source the necessary parts for it. There seems to be currently no aircraft in the US arsenal that can provide a comparable (low stall speed and robustness) Close Air Support platform.
