The HK416 has long been an iconic weapon. Not because the Bundeswehr fails to procure it, but because many special forces around the world use the HK416. The best of the best, what more advertising could you want? But the Deltas are said to have switched, they are now said to be using KAC Carbines. Lighter and more modern, the argument is said to have been. Now there are these current photos from an exercise near Nam Deck on the US West Coast. In Blackhawks and Little Birds, men fly around who are among the top operators worldwide, SEAL Team 6 or DEVGRU. In addition to a lot of exciting gear, we see surprisingly that they all carry a new weapon uniformly with a Noveske's 10.5" Gen III Shorty Upper.
At least with regard to the Upper, the guys rely on the Noveske's 10.5" Gen III Shorty Upper. So they seem to have had enough of the Short Stroke Piston System and are going back to Eugene Stoner's original design, the Direct Impingement (DI). Perhaps because the system becomes slightly lighter. The Lower does not seem to be the milled version, but the forged one. It is hard to say exactly which Lower it is from the photos, but it is definitely a very exotic combo.
With the accessories, you can see the usual, but somehow everything looks new too. In addition to the classic AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL, many new NGALs are also visible. The suppressor is the Sandman by Dead Air Silencer's. The optics rely on Aimpoint Micro T2 and EOTech XPS. At least in this exercise, without a magnifier.
With the stocks and other attachments, you can see a wide spectrum. Depending on preference, what the shooter likes best is used, the soldier is allowed to do that in a Tier 1 unit. Of course, it may not be photographed by Raven Harris, the DEVGRU operator who spotted the helis above the beach. HERE on The Drive is the whole story about DEVGRU's new weapons.
