With the project "German Mission Network Block 1" (GMN 1), the Bundeswehr receives deployable, modular, and scalable data centers. These provide multinational interoperable IT services in operational areas, extending the IT services from stationary data centers in the country to operational areas. These data centers, together with the stationary bases in the country, form a logical unit. They enable seamless exchange of information within the armed forces and with NATO partners.
For this purpose, the Procurement Agency of the Bundeswehr signed a contract with BWI GmbH today. In addition to providing deployable data centers, the contract includes their connection to stationary data centers, test and training facilities, and the expansion of capacities of stationary data centers in Germany (domestic base). The project is funded from the Bundeswehr's special fund and was approved yesterday by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag.
GMN 1 represents an extremely important, system-relevant component in the end-to-end chain to integrate the armed forces into a continuously digitized system network in line with the state of the art. The IT infrastructure to be established with GMN 1 is a key element for the successful conduct of military operations of the Bundeswehr on today's and tomorrow's digitized battlefield. These new digital capabilities are of considerable importance for the defense capability of the Bundeswehr.
