The 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines stationed in California is currently testing the M27 (HK416 version) for use as a universal assault rifle, a task currently held by the M4A1. Two of the stated advantages in favor of the M4 are the 3-round bursts (which could certainly be realized in the M27 as well) and the price. The soldiers would definitely welcome a general rollout of the M27, or to put it in the words of Chief Warrant Officer 5 Christian Wade: "It's the best infantry rifle in the world..."
