USA: Lynx lynched

Last week we reported that Rheinmetall and Raytheon are forming a US joint venture to enter the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle into the competition for the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV). Now there are reports that the Lynx has been disqualified. The U.S. Army has not officially commented on this yet, only confirming that it is moving to the next phase. However, there is a problem because without the Lynx, there is only one model left to choose from. The Griffin III from General Dynamics remains as the only option. The German Lynx prototype, specifically built for the offer, must remain in Germany for now. This seems to have been the problem. The requirements of the US Army were so tight that there was not enough time to obtain all the approvals to transport the vehicle to the USA. Rheinmetall may have requested a four-week extension to the time window or to deliver the vehicle to an American base in Germany, but this was rejected by the U.S. Army. Currently, the OMFV competition is on hold due to a continuation decision mandated by Congress. Rheinmetall can still hope to potentially be admitted. We wish them good luck.
