US ARMY: The first ISVs are rolling in

10/29/2020By Redaktion

GM Defense LLC, a subsidiary of General Motors, celebrates the first delivery of the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) to the US Army. This comes just 120 days after the order was placed in June for $214.3 million. The ISV is a light and agile off-road troop transporter designed to carry an infantry squad of nine soldiers and their equipment. GM Defense will initially produce 649 ISVs and is expected to produce an additional 2,065 vehicles over the next eight years.

The ISV is based on the award-winning architecture of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and uses 90% proven COTS parts (Commercial-off-the-shelf), including Chevrolet Performance racing components. Weighing 5,000 pounds (~2,270 kg), the ISV was designed to meet military requirements and provide rapid ground mobility.

The ISV is light enough to be transported by a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, and compact enough to fit inside a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. This meets the required air transportability of the ISV. The COTS parts, combined with the innovative rollover protection system of the ISV, provide agile transport capability on the battlefield to support mission success.
