US Army remains with the M4

The US Army has ended the Individual Carbine Competition without a winner due to none of the candidates advancing to Phase 3. Budget concerns may have influenced this decision, as the potential improvements from a new carbine may not have justified the costs.

The US Army has officially concluded the Individual Carbine Competition (ICC) without a winner. None of the submitted candidates made it from Phase 2 to Phase 3 (which could be related to the new M855A1 ammunition). This has put a stop to the US Congress, where preparations were being made to legally require the Army to complete the ICC. It is speculated that in times of budget cuts, the US Army does not want to allocate the funds for a change if the resulting improvements are not significant.
