The Israeli Ministry of Defense is testing an upgraded version of the Namer APC with a 30mm cannon for urban operations. The Eitan APC will also receive this upgrade to enhance mobility and firepower, transforming them into Infantry Fighting Vehicles. Touchscreen-controlled turret maintains original protection. Learn more about Namer and Eitan APCs.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense is currently testing an upgraded version of their best-armored armored personnel carrier (APC) Namer, which will be equipped with a 30-millimeter cannon. The vehicles are intended to be more mobile while still providing enough firepower for operations in urban areas. The cannon is mounted on top of the APC and does not protrude into the tank's cargo area, thus maintaining the original protection of the vehicles. The turret itself will be controlled internally via touchscreens.
In addition to the Namer APC, the Eitan APC is also set to be equipped with this upgrade. For Israel, it is important that the vehicles no longer simply transport troops from point A to point B, but that they also support and provide protection to the units. This allows them to be more mobile and effectively utilized. Ultimately, the APCs will become Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), adapting to the fact that future battlefields are increasingly located in urban areas.
