Hungary is counting on the Lynx from Rheinmetall.

The Hungarian government started the most significant modernization and defense industry program worth more than two billion euros to modernize the military industry with the agreement signed in Unterlüss on August 17, 2020. This was announced by the Secretariat of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology and the Commissioner for Defense Development. As part of the collaboration between the leading European defense company Rheinmetall and Hungary, the partners will establish a joint venture and a production facility in Hungary to manufacture the modern Lynx armored vehicle. HERE you can find all technical information about Lynx.

Hungary is the first NATO and EU member state to opt for the newly developed Lynx armored vehicle from the Düsseldorf-based company. This step is crucial for the ongoing defense and military development program, which aims to rapidly elevate the Hungarian army to a globally high level of capabilities and contribute to addressing security challenges in the Euro-Atlantic area. “As part of its commitments to NATO, Hungary is restoring the heavy armaments of its army. After the battle tanks and artillery, it is now the turn of the armored vehicles, which form the backbone of the capabilities spectrum. As the most advanced model in its category, Lynx has proven to be suitable to take on this central role in the army's equipment portfolio for the coming decades. In line with the Hungarian government's commitment to the development of the armed forces, this collaboration means much more than just military-technical modernization. The partnership with a leading European corporation serves to modernize the defense industry and thus expand our industrial portfolio,” said a joint statement by Minister of Innovation and Technology László Palkovics and Government Commissioner for Defense Development Gáspár Maróth, who signed the agreement.

Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, says: “It is a significant success for us to have achieved a market breakthrough with Lynx. The success is all the more valuable as we were able to secure an important EU and NATO partner as a customer for this innovative vehicle. With this groundbreaking procurement decision, Hungary and its military and political decision-makers are showing leadership. The country is not only technologically at the forefront of European military technology. The Hungarian government is also consistently and with great effort following its course to be a reliable and militarily capable partner for NATO forces.”

“We are proud to be able to make a significant contribution to the development of the defense capabilities of the country in cooperation with the Hungarian industry. We look forward to collaborating with our Hungarian partners and friends and will do everything in our power to ensure the long-term success of the company,” Armin Papperger said.
