One works with what one has. And let's be honest: a T-64 is better than 5,000 German helmets. The Ukrainian KhBTZ tank factory is starting field tests of the T64BV Obr.2022.
The T-64BV is equipped with the reactive armor "Kontakt-1" and the 81mm smoke grenade launchers "Tucha" on the left side of the turret. The tank is equipped with third generation surveillance and sighting devices, rubber skirts, and anti-accumulation armor at the rear. This variant of the T-64 battle tank is equipped with a new fuel system, protected fuel tanks, a new Laska K2 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun, new surveillance and sighting systems (most likely the 1G46 instead of the 1G42), as well as communication and navigation systems. With a maximum speed of 45 km/h, the T-64BV has a range of 600 km.
For Ukrainians, the T-64 is a cost-effective and efficient alternative compared to the modern T-84, even if they would perform poorly in combat against modern tanks. Ukraine has around 100 T-64BM "Bulat" in service. The history of the T-64 at a glance.
