The Bundeswehr has once again called up artillery ammunition from Rheinmetall under the framework contract. Rheinmetall has been tasked with delivering a total of several tens of thousands of projectiles of different types for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The order value amounts to a nine-figure million EUR amount. The delivery is scheduled to take place over the course of 2025.
The latest call-up continues the series of previous artillery ammunition orders placed by the Bundeswehr for the Ukrainian and German Armed Forces. In July 2023, Rheinmetall signed a new framework contract with the Bundeswehr in the artillery sector. It includes the delivery of several hundred thousand projectiles, fuses, and propellants. The framework contract has a term until 2029 and a potential order volume of around 1.2 billion EUR gross.
The need to replenish the ammunition stocks of the armed forces is driven by the war in Ukraine. In this context, Rheinmetall receives several large orders in the field of artillery ammunition.
Among the ammunition family offered by Rheinmetall in the artillery sector are the fragmentation shell DM121, the smoke shell DM125, and the smart fuze ammunition DM702 SMArt (a joint development with Diehl Defence) as well as the practice shell RH68 and the range-optimized smoke shells RH1901 and RH1902. The portfolio also includes the versatile 155mm Assegai artillery ammunition family from Rheinmetall Denel Munition: insensitive munition (IM), conventional high explosive (HE) projectiles, as well as smoke, illumination, infrared illumination, and other projectiles. The entire Assegai ammunition spectrum can be used to its full range of around 40 kilometers. With the mentioned framework contract, the proven Assegai ammunition family is being introduced to the Bundeswehr. Furthermore, Rheinmetall offers the artillery family of Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, including the 155mm M107 and 155mm Extended Range.
