Russian forces advance in Kursk Oblast while Ukrainian forces push back. Chechen Spetsnaz commander calls up conscripts for combat. Sakhalin Border Service reintroduces conscription. Full report available from UNDERSTANDING WAR.
On August 19, Ukrainian forces continued to advance slightly in the Kursk Oblast, while fighting continued at all Ukrainian outposts in the region - pictured above: Ukrainian SSO Special Forces in the forests of Kursk. Geographic images released on August 19 show Ukrainian forces advancing in Vishneva (southwest of Koronevo and 14 km from the international border). The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the Russian Air Force and artillery had hit Ukrainian troops near Vishneva, possibly implying that Ukrainian troops were advancing in that area.
Chechen Spetsnaz commander Akhmat Apty Alaudinov exacerbated a situation that the Kremlin had always treated with extreme caution by calling up conscripts to participate in combat operations in the Kursk region and dismissing the concerns of conscripts' relatives.
Russian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Svatove, Pokrovsk, and Vuhledar.
On August 19, local media company Sakhalin Media reported that the Border Service of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Sakhalin Oblast and other federal subjects in the Far East, Northwest, and North Caucasus had reintroduced conscription for the first time in a 'long' period.
