Russian officials and milbloggers express concerns about security at critical infrastructure after Ukrainian drone attack on oil storage facility. Russian military may have used under-equipped units due to restrictions on arms industry. Recent developments in Ukraine highlighted in full Russian Offensive Update 853 from UNDERSTANDING WAR.
In response to the Ukrainian drone attack on an oil storage facility near Zimljansk (Rostov region) on July 13, Russian officials and milbloggers once again complained about the inadequate security measures around critical infrastructure in the rear areas of Russia.
The Russian military leadership may have used under-equipped units, originally intended as operational reserves, for combat operations, possibly due to restrictions on the Russian arms industry or to bolster ongoing Russian grinding attacks in Ukraine. Ukrainian forces recently recaptured their lost positions near Wowtschansk, and Russian forces have recently advanced near Avdiivka.
The full Russian Offensive Update 853 is available directly from UNDERSTANDING WAR.
