The Russian forces launched an offensive along the Russian-Ukrainian border in the northern Kharkiv region on the morning of May 10, achieving tactically important successes.
In the coming days, the Russian forces are likely to utilize their tactical position in the north of the Kharkiv Oblast to intensify their offensive operations and carry out the first phase of an offensive operation aimed at pushing the Ukrainian forces back from the border with the Belgorod Oblast and advancing towards the city of Kharkiv, where they are to be shelled with artillery.
However, the limited efforts currently undertaken by the Russian forces do not indicate an immediate large-scale offensive operation to encircle and capture the city of Kharkiv.
Russian offensive operations along the international border of Kharkiv likely have the strategic goal of drawing and tying down Ukrainian forces on this axis in order to enable Russian advances into other areas of eastern Ukraine.
