Russian forces advanced northwest of Avdiivka near Arkhangelsk on May 3-4 in response to Ukraine's withdrawal. Footage showed elements of the "Lavina" battalion. Geolocation confirms their presence in the area. For complete assessment, refer to UNDERSTANDING WAR.
Russian forces made a remarkable tactical advance northwest of Avdiivka near Arkhangelsk on the night of May 3-4, presumably in response to Ukraine's decision to withdraw from the area on May 3.
A Russian milblogger posted footage on May 4 allegedly showing elements of the Russian "Lavina" battalion of the 132nd Motorized Rifle Brigade (1st Army Corps of the Donetsk People's Republic [DNR]) raising a flag in Arkhangelsk, which ISW geolocated north of Arkhangelsk. Further geolocated footage released on May 4 suggests that Russian forces have penetrated the eastern outskirts of Arkhangelsk.
