The Russian President Vladimir Putin has admitted that the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities are partially aimed at destroying the Ukrainian defense industry, confirming ISW's assessment that the Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities aim to weaken the capacities of the Ukrainian defense industry.
ISW continues to believe that the development of the Ukrainian defense industry will eventually enable Ukraine to sustain its defense against Russia and its longer-term national security needs with significantly less foreign military assistance over time.
