Ukrainian President Zelensky discusses the impact of delays in American security assistance on Ukraine's defense capabilities, highlighting the importance of air defense systems and missiles from the US. These delays threaten Ukraine's ability to protect its territory and could result in the gradual loss of more land to Russian forces. Zelensky emphasizes the need for continued support to stabilize the front lines and prevent further territorial losses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that delays in American security assistance have forced Ukraine to give up the initiative on the battlefield and that these delays continue to threaten Ukraine's defense capabilities.
The "Washington Post" published excerpts from an interview with Zelensky on March 29, in which he explained that Ukraine is unable to defend its territory without American support, as it currently relies on air defense systems and missiles, electronic warfare jammers, and 155 mm artillery shells from the United States. Zelensky mentioned that the ongoing material shortage will force the Ukrainian military to „step by step“ give up more Ukrainian territory and people, as a smaller but more stable frontline is preferable to a larger but unstable one that could be exploited by Russian forces to achieve a breakthrough. Zelensky said that the Ukrainian forces are „trying to find a way not to withdraw from unspecified front areas“, and noted that the Ukrainian forces had stabilized the front near Avdiivka (Donetsk region).
