The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) released its 38th report on the human rights situation in Ukraine on March 26.
The report confirms several long-standing assessments by ISW regarding systematic violations of international human rights and humanitarian law by Russia in the occupied territories and towards Ukrainian prisoners of war. The HRMMU report covers activities between December 1, 2023, and February 29, 2024, and includes new findings on the abuse of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia during this period, based on interviews with 60 recently released male prisoners of war. Nearly all prisoners of war interviewed by HRMMU reported being tortured by Russian forces with beatings and electric shocks, threatened with execution, and more than half of those interviewed were victims of sexual violence. HERE is the full report on Ukrainian prisoners of war and human rights.
