UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 737 - FEBRUARY 29, 2024

Ukrainian authorities fear significant Russian territorial gains by summer 2024 if Western security aid is delayed. Russian forces may focus on major breakthrough in summer 2024. Full update available at UNDERSTANDING WAR.

Ukrainian authorities are concerned about the possibility of significant Russian territorial gains by the summer of 2024 if Western security assistance continues to be delayed.

Bloomberg reports that, according to internal Ukrainian assessments, Russian advances along the front line could significantly increase by the summer of 2024 if Ukrainian partners do not increase the delivery of artillery ammunition. Bloomberg suggests that sources close to the Ukrainian leadership explain that Ukraine expects the Russian forces to decide whether to continue focusing on incremental tactical gains or prepare for a major breakthrough attempt in the summer of 2024, depending on the results of the current Russian offensive operations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on February 25 that Russian forces were preparing for a new offensive to begin at the end of May or in the summer of 2024.

On February 29, Russian forces advanced further in Avdiivka and continue their fighting along the front line.

The full Russian Offensive Update 737 is available directly from UNDERSTANDING WAR.
