UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 735 - 27 FEBRUARY 2024

The Russian Armed Forces are attempting to exploit the tactical opportunities created by the Russian seizure of Avdiivka and appear to be maintaining a relatively high pace of attack in order to penetrate as far as possible into the area around Avdiivka before Ukrainian forces can establish more consolidated and difficult-to-breach defensive lines in that area.

After the Russian capture of Avdiivka on February 17, the Russian Armed Forces temporarily slowed the pace of their operations to clear the settlement but have since resumed their relatively high pace of attack further west and northwest of Avdiivka.

Ukraine warns that following the formal incorporation of occupied and claimed Ukrainian territories into the Russian Southern Military District (SMD), Russia will intensify efforts to increase troop levels in occupied Ukraine.
