Russian offensive operations near Avdiivka demonstrate the capability of Russian armed forces to apply tactical lessons in Ukraine. Geolocated imagery confirms Russian troop advances, supported by tanks and armored vehicles. The full report is available from UNDERSTANDING WAR.
The ongoing local Russian offensive operations near Avdiivka probably indicate that the Russian armed forces are capable of learning and applying tactical lessons on the battlefield in Ukraine.
After intensive artillery preparation of the battlefield in the early morning hours of October 10, Russian forces began localized attacks on Avdiivka. Geolocated imagery from October 10 and 11 confirmed that Russian troops advanced to the southwest of Avdiivka at Sieverne and to the northwest of Avdiivka at Stepove and Krasnohorivka. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that a group of up to three Russian battalions, supported by tanks and armored vehicles, had intensified their offensive operations near Avdiivka. Ukrainian General Staff spokesman Andriy Kovalyov said the battalions belonged to three motorized rifle brigades of the 8th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District.
