Russian forces continue small tactical attacks in Izyum and Severodonetsk, unable to break through Ukrainian defense despite reinforcements. Russian military tactics in eastern Ukraine mirror failed efforts near Kyiv.
The Russian forces continued with small tactical attacks on the axes of Izyum and Severodonetsk; additional reinforcements have not yet allowed for a breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense. The Russian forces continue to deploy reinforcements to eastern Ukraine, but show no signs of an operational pause. The Russian military seems to be pursuing a similar approach in eastern Ukraine as it did in its failed efforts north of Kyiv in early March - continuing to send small groups of forces on unsuccessful attacks against Ukrainian defensive positions without taking an operational pause, which is likely necessary to prepare for a more successful offensive campaign.
The Russian forces continue to wear down the Ukrainian defenders in Mariupol, although ISW currently cannot assess how long these forces will hold out and what their supply situation is like.
