UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 53 - 12 APRIL 2022

Russian offensive operations in eastern Ukraine continue at a limited scale as troops regroup from Kyiv. Focus on logistical bases in Donbass suggests preparations for intensified fighting.

04/13/2022  By Redaktion

Russia continued its offensive operations in eastern Ukraine to a limited extent in order to regroup troops withdrawn from the Battle of Kyiv and establish the necessary logistical bases for enhanced offensive operations in the Donbass. The Russian forces withdrawn from the Kyiv region have not yet returned to Ukraine to fight there.

The Russian military has continued to conduct smaller, limited offensive operations on the axes of Izyum and Severodonetsk and has not yet transitioned to a better-equipped or wider offensive campaign. The battle for Mariupol continues, with the city not having fallen yet, although Ukrainian officials accuse Russia of using chemical weapons against the defenders of Mariupol.
