UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 50 - APRIL 9, 2022

The Russian military is trying to generate enough combat power to take and hold the parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts that it currently does not control after the capture of Mariupol. There are good reasons to doubt the ability of the Russian armed forces to do this, and their ability to effectively use the regained combat power despite an alleged simplification of the Russian command structure.
