UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 44 - APRIL 3, 2022

Ukraine has won the battle for Kyiv. Russian forces are completing their withdrawal, but not in good order. Ukrainian forces continue to clear Kyiv Oblast of isolated Russian troops who have been left behind during the withdrawal and are referred to by some Ukrainian officials as "lost orcs."

Russian forces have attempted to carry out an orderly withdrawal from their positions around Kyiv, supported by artillery and mines to facilitate the withdrawal. The main body of Russian troops has withdrawn from the western bank of the Dnipro and is completing its withdrawal from the eastern bank, but the withdrawal has been so disorderly that some Russian troops have been left behind.
