On April 2, the prominent Russian military blogger Maksim Fomin (also known as Vladlen Tatarsky) fell victim to an attack in St. Petersburg.
Fomin was one of the most significant Russian military bloggers with a Telegram platform of 560,000 followers and close connections to the Wagner Group, the Kremlin, the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), and Russian nationalists who have dominated the Russian information space since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Fomin's murder at a Wagner bar in St. Petersburg could reveal further rifts within the Kremlin and its inner circle. Fomin was a vocal critic of the Russian military leadership and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). His death marks the first high-profile murder of an ultranationalist military blogger in Russia since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
