UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 319 - JANUARY 6, 2023

Russian officials and military bloggers largely did not react to the announcement of the US providing Ukraine with new military aid of $3.75 billion. This highlights that the Kremlin and the Russian information space selectively choose when to portray Western military aid as escalation.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on January 6th that Ukraine will receive Bradley Fighting Vehicles, artillery systems, armored personnel carriers, surface-to-air missiles, and ammunition with this aid. Russian officials and military bloggers barely reacted to the recent announcement of military aid, even though the Kremlin had recently referred to the delivery of purely defensive Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine as escalation.

It's interesting that they see the announced delivery of 40 Marder tanks and a Patriot battery to Germany as "crossing a moral line" and as "escalation of conflict."
