UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 306 - DECEMBER 24, 2022

12/25/2022By Redaktion

The advance pace of Russian forces in the Bakhmut area has slowed in recent days, although it is still too early to assess whether the Russian offensive to capture Bakhmut has peaked.

Russian milbloggers confirmed that Ukrainian forces in the Bakhmut region have managed to slow down the pace of the Russian advance around Bakhmut and the surrounding settlements, with one claiming that Ukrainian forces have pushed back elements of the Wagner Group to positions they held days ago. Ukrainian sources on social media had previously claimed that Ukrainian forces had completely driven out the Russian troops from the eastern outskirts of Bakhmut around December 21.

The ISW also noted that Russian forces made slightly fewer advances in the Bakhmut region in November and December than in October.
