UKRAINE: THE SITUATION 232 - OCTOBER 9, 2022

Ukrainian forces advance eastward towards Luhansk, while Russian forces launch unsuccessful attacks near Kharkiv and Lyman. Russian forces shell Zaporizhzhia, and relocate families from Kherson to Crimea.

The Ukrainian forces continue to advance further east of the Oskil River towards the Luhansk Oblast and have entered Stel'makhivka (about 18 km west of Svatove). Russian forces have launched unsuccessful attacks on Burdaka at the border between the Kharkiv Oblast and Russia, as well as on Terny northeast of Lyman.

Russian sources report that Russian forces attempted to attack towards Ternovi Pody (about 30 km northwest of Kherson city). Ukrainian sources tell that Russian forces have continued to attack newly liberated settlements in the northern Kherson Oblast with artillery, MLRS, and aircraft. Ukrainian forces were able to repel over 30 attacks in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka areas. Russian forces launched an unsuccessful attack southwest of Donetsk city.

Russian forces have shelled residential areas in the city of Zaporizhzhia with cruise missiles.

Ukrainian sources report that Russian occupying authorities are relocating their families from the Kherson region to Crimea and from Starobilsk to the city of Luhansk.
