This abstract discusses insights from Major General Bruno Hofbauer on the conflict in Ukraine. Topics include the impact of Kyiv's fall, NATO support for Ukraine, and the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons by Russia.

The fighting in Ukraine continues and we continue to receive many questions about the conflict. Here we address the most common ones.
This time, Major General Bruno Hofbauer responds, he heads the basic planning in the Ministry of Defense and is an expert in operational leadership and military strategy.
Can it be assumed that the Russian attack war is decided when Kyiv falls?
Not necessarily. It also depends a lot on whether the government can maintain its ability to act and continue to govern elsewhere in Ukraine. The loss of the capital would in any case be a heavy blow to the morale of the population and the troops.
There are NATO countries that not only help in the humanitarian field, but also deliver weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces. Could Russia interpret this as a provocation by the NATO alliance and thus escalate the conflict?
These weapons are delivered by individual states, not NATO. NATO does not have weapons to distribute. Such measures are a sign of support from one sovereign state to another state that is openly under attack. However, it cannot be ruled out that Russia may use such measures as a pretext for further escalation.
Would the Russian Federation be capable of using tactical nuclear weapons if the attack were to stall significantly?
At present, this is not to be expected. The consequences would be serious and catastrophic.
