A Persistent Surveillance System (PSS) consists of balloon- and tower-mounted sensors connected to a ground station. The system enables real-time evaluation of sensor data in the domain of land-based command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR). HERE you can find all information about the PSS system.

Following the initial procurement of the PSS by the Canadian government in 2009, Rheinmetall received its first service contract, which ran from 2015 to 2021.

The Canadian government has now tasked Rheinmetall with the maintenance of the Persistent Surveillance System. The contract began in January 2021 and will last until the end of December 2021. Annual contract extensions are possible thereafter.
As the general contractor, Rheinmetall Canada Inc., Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu/Québec, is providing repair and maintenance services for the eight PSS units currently in use by the Canadian Armed Forces.
