TRAINING: This was the first workshop at the 5.11 Store.

09/15/2018By Redaktion

On September 8th, the 5.11 Store in Hamburg hosted the first workshop "5.11 VTAC Rifle Sling - Professional Handling of the Rifle Sling". The training was led by Hermann "Rosi" Rosenberg from DBHR. Rosi is a former commando soldier and shooting advisor for the German Armed Forces. Currently, he is still serving as a reservist in the Paratrooper Regiment 31 in Seedorf and also works as a trainer for various military and police units, as well as serving civilians and civilian companies as clients.

Red Guns and VTAC Slings

Interested participants could register by phone or in person at the 5.11 Store. The number of participants for this workshop was originally limited to 10, but ultimately 11 customers participated. The participants came from various backgrounds, including members of the police and the German Armed Forces, as well as civilians (such as sports shooters, hunters, and airsoft players). The store's team prepared the in-house training room, where Red Guns with the corresponding slings were already set up and ready for the participants.

The workshop focused on the 5.11 VTAC Two-Point-Rifle-Sling (unpadded). This is the simplest rifle sling in the 5.11 range, providing users with all the possibilities for use in sports, hunting, or tactical applications with firearms such as SMGs, assault rifles, semi-automatic rifles, or shotguns - as the participants would discover during the seminar.

After a brief welcome from the 5.11 team, the training began. Each participant received their "own" Red Gun and, under guidance, adjusted the length of the rifle sling to their height. Although only Two-Point Slings were used, Rosi explained the other variants (Single and Three-Point Slings) and the methods of attachment to long guns.

Training for all Fields of Application

Subsequently, practical exercises were conducted. Following the motto "from easy to difficult", the Red Gun was initially transitioned from a shooting position to carrying on the back, allowing the shooter to have both hands free for breaching or tactical field care. On command, the weapons were quickly brought back into the shooting position. The next exercise involved switching the shooting position from right to left and back again. This was an important exercise for both emergency responders to take advantage of cover, as well as for sports shooters in dynamic shooting scenarios or for hunters when shooting from positions that don't allow for a preferred side.

The training then focused on using the rifle sling in the shooting position, specifically to improve accuracy and recoil control. The 5.11 VTAC Two Point Sling can be quickly adjusted in length, providing optimal support to the shooter when tightened in the shooting position. Participants were also shown how to quickly and safely transition from standing to lying down and back up again using the sling.

Putting the Learning into Practice

At the end, participants completed so-called Beamer drills, where they could apply and demonstrate the skills they had just learned. The instructor could then confirm that all participants understood and implemented the lessons. Additionally, the participants had fun, which is always an important bonus in trainings and instruction (at least for Rosi and 5.11 ?).

It can be concluded that the workshop was a complete success for all involved. Both the participants, the instructor, and the 5.11 team were happy and satisfied. After a final tour of the store with some small purchases, everyone bid farewell and headed into the weekend.

On October 6, 2018, from 16:00 to 18:00, the 5.11 TACTICAL Flagship Store invites you to the workshop "The Operator's Equipment - the Plate Carrier". This workshop will cover the plate carrier itself (purpose and function), as well as the selection, arrangement, and attachment of additional pouches for magazines, IFAK, etc. For more information on the 5.11 Store and upcoming events, check out their Facebook Page.
